Behind every behavioral change are dilemmas that make perseverance difficult – behavioral change only lasts if someone is committed to it. The Motivational Interviewing method was originally developed in addiction care, where it was discovered that patients are best helped using a guided decision-making process. By focusing on ‘change language’ during a conversation and avoiding retention language, you increase the chance of successful change as a solution to a dilemma. In the module, you make the ‘Spirit of MI’ your own by practicing skills and seeing what works.
